The project involves the renovation of the top floor of an early 20th-century villa, adapting it to the living needs of a young family with three children. The original layout is preserved and clarified through the removal of later additions, resulting in a sequence of rooms organised along large, light-filled corridors that function both as distribution spaces and as areas of connection. The work on the existing building focuses on a careful process of subtraction and redefinition. Double-leaf doors and window frames, defined by pronounced mouldings, are restored and returned to their representative role. The original cement tile floors are recovered, recomposed and integrated, respecting their original patterns. New materials are selected in search of the same enduring quality as the existing ones, but without imitation. Solid oak flooring in wide planks defines the living area through its strong material presence, while Piasentina stone laid in a grid pattern - polished on the floor and flamed on vertical surfaces - introduces a tactile quality within the bathrooms. Bespoke furnishings, conceived as architectural elements, are integrated into the walls to the point of disappearing: made of wood painted on site in white, they function as both partitions and storage, structuring the space. Building systems, entirely renewed, are designed to minimise their visual presence, while artificial lighting, through exposed fixtures, characterises each room.
